King Tee's Daughter Funeralized

The daughter of West Coast Hip-Hop legend King Tee will be funeralized today after the teenager died suddenly earlier in the week.

Heaven McBride was killed in a car accident on Tuesday May 26. She was 16 years old.

A number of close affiliates of King Tee have already expressed their sympathy over the death.

DJ E-Swift, Xzibit and Darlene Ortiz, ex-wife of rapper Ice-T, all have paid their respects to King Tee and Heaven.

“He really appreciates all of the support through this,” E-Swift told AllHipHop.com of the outpouring of love.

King Tee, born Roger McBride, is a renown rap artist who has a career that dates top the late 80’s. His first three albums are certified Gold and he was once signed to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment. The rapper was also instrumental in introducing the world to The Akaholiks.

The family requests that any prayers and or words of encouragement be sent to weloveheaven@gmail.com.

Kanye talks New book & BP3

NEW YORK — "Where amazing happens" doesn't just take place on the NBA courts — it also happens in Kanye West's studio. The Grammy winner says Jay-Z's long-percolating Blueprint 3 will be well worth the long wait the MC's fans have been enduring.

"Jay is in control of everything in his domain," Kanye, the album's producer, said last week during a promotional visit for his book, "Thank You and You're Welcome."

"He's just been working on it, and it's gonna be amazing when he drops it. I think it's good he's taking his time to give people the best product possible and not being rushed by this fast-food, media-outlet, Internet, everything-is-getting-leaked, people-stealing your-songs-before-you-can-mix-them-and-put-them-online world we're living in right now."

Kanye revealed that he and Jay went back in and made some alterations to B3 since they first started.

"We actually removed all the songs with Auto-Tune off of his album," West said, "to make the point that this is an anti-Auto-Tune album, even though I released an album that has all Auto-Tune!

"It doesn't matter to me," Kanye laughed about Jay not wanting to incorporate the sound that is featured so heavily on Kanye's 808s & Heartbreak. "It's music; it's just sonics. I like Auto-Tune so I do it, but you want the other thing — like you'll wear a suit to a wedding and gym shoes to a basketball game. I think it's a perfect moment for Jay to provide some gym shoes to a basketball game right now."

No release date has been set for Blueprint 3, however, last week, Jay-Z secured his release from Def Jam Records, which will allow the album to come out on his own Roc Nation label, presumably in partnership with Rock Nation (although the specifics of that deal have not been confirmed). Meanwhile, Kanye has been in the studio, grabbing inspiration for his own next album.

California mom tells cops she had sex with boys to keep them away from her daughter

A 30-year-old Northern California woman has pleaded not guilty to charges that she had sex with three teenage boys.
Deborah Towe faces 11 felony counts, including unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, oral copulation of a person under the age of 16, committing lewd acts upon a child and arranging a meeting with a minor for a lewd purpose.
The boys were 15 and 16 years old.
Police in Anderson, about 150 miles north of Sacramento, began investigating in April after two girls from a local middle school reported that a friend's mother was having sex with boys.
In a 48-page report released this week, Towe told police she was protecting her daughter by diverting the boys' attention to herself.
She denied the charges during an appearance Wednesday in Shasta County Superior Court. Towe remains jailed, with her bond set at $250,000.

Miss Info's update on the Charles Hamilton vs Brianna Isaccs situation...she's MJB's Stepdaughter!

honestly….I acknowledge that Charles Hamilton was greasy with his verses (insinuating that he slept with the girl or something…I didnt really understand their dynamic because she picked him up from the airport, right?)……but….in this situation, I give Charles credit, yes, I said, credit for not retaliating with physical violence after she punches him in the mouth.

PS: some folks, especially some overly-indignant women, aren’t reading with comprehension so let me re=clarify this:
“CH is no hero to me. He acts like a douche. But that said….I’m glad he didn’t punch back.”
Words are words. His were foul. Physical violence is another thing.

UPDATE: Thanks to my girl Karen Civil for reminding me where I knew that woman’s face! That is Mary J. Blige’s step-daughter Briana Latrise Issacs. She’s actually a talented photographer/artsy-type. Maybe she made a bit of a character mis-judgement with CH, but that’s a human-misstep that we all make at one time or another.

UPDATE 2: Eskay points out that Charles Hamilton has posted this very video on his own blog and says that Briana is his assistant. Hmm.

UPDATE 3: My twitter pal DirtySoufYankee sent over a link to Briana’s blog with all the posts tagged “Charles Hamilton” and there are some veiled and unveiled terms about her struggles with her “boss.” Even hinting that she and CH have a baby? I can’t keep up anymore.

UPDATE 4.1: DDotOmen sent over a special MissInfo.tv edit of his phoner with Briana Latrise. Thanks Ddot!

Former Chicago Bull Randy Brown's three NBA championship rings were sold in an auction this morning for $53,833.

Former Chicago Bull Randy Brown's three NBA championship rings were sold in an auction this morning for $53,833. The winning bidder, identified only as "RingKing," had to outbid Michael Jordan's publicist and two other unidentified bidders who vied for the rings.

A judge ordered the rings to be sold online through West Auctions following Brown's August 2008 Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing. The minimum bid was set at $19,000. Earlier this month, Brown told the Sacramento Bee that the rings were his most cherished possessions.

"People figure that here's this guy ... he's played in the NBA, he just got fired (as a coach), he's broke, and here he is giving up his championship rings," he told the paper. "That hurt me because those (rings) mean a lot to me."

Among the listed bidders on the West Auction Web site was Estee Portnoy, the longtime publicist for Bulls legend and former Brown teammate Michael Jordan.

Portnoy declined to say whether she was bidding on Jordan's behalf. Her final bid came Tuesday, topping out at $40,000.

"I was just bidding to win," said Portnoy, reached by phone Thursday afternoon. "I didn't win."

Portnoy also declined to say whether she was bidding with the intent of returning the rings to Brown.

"I didn't have any special motivation," she said. "I'm just disappointed I didn't win."

The Sacramento Bee also reported May 5 that Brown was informed he could not regain the rings by way of a third party through the auction. He was told that if he couldn't reclaim the rings, the Bulls could replace them.

Bidding was anonymous, but because it was a public sale conducted on behalf of the bankruptcy court, the name of the final bidder will eventually be released as part of public record.

Brown, a guard on the 1996, 1997 and 1998 Chicago Bulls championship teams, was fired as a Sacramento Kings assistant coach in April.

5 Ways to Save Dipset by Complex Magazine

We all know record sales don’t mean much anymore, but it’s still pretty clear that the Diplomats‘ reign is over, and that’s bad for hip-hop. The Dips’ output at their peak—Diplomatic Immunity, Purple Haze, Juelz‘ and Jones’ debuts and countless piff-tastic mixtapes—puts the crew up there with one of the best rap collectives of all time. Yeah, we said it. So how can we get the gang back on top? The first step is obvious: Get Cam, Jimmy and Juelz to reunite as a team. But then what? We’ve come up with 5 ways to bring Dipset back to dominance…

1.Recruit New Members:
Would anybody really miss 40 Cal or J.R. Writer? These days, the kids love Kid Cudi (a.k.a. 40 Cudi) and Drake (a.k.a. Drake Da God), so bring them in the fold—Hell Rell will strong-arm ‘em if necessary. (Shit, Jones already jumped on “Day and Night.”) As in sports, new rookie blood can add much-needed energy to the vets. Cudi and Drake are gonna have to get used to rockin’ doo-rags, though.

2. Bring Max B Back:
To that end, it’s time that Capo let bygones be bygones with Biggaveli. Let’s face it, Jones made some of his best music with Max riding shotgun. Plus Wavy Crockett has mad traction on the Internet nowadays. Worldstarhiphop.com would eat it up. Everybody wins. *Insert Max B laugh*

3.Embrace the Hipsters:
If the so-called “streets” are frontin’, then the Dips should run a Fader route and lock down the freelance-graphic-design crowd. That means collabos with groups like Mastodon, production from Diplo and more shows in the Willy B. Ironic love is love nonetheless. Plus we miss running into white hipster girls that like Dipset. Like, “running into.” Literally

4.Start a new Beef:
At its peak, Dipset would start shit with anybody, just for the fuck of it. Jay-Z, Nas, 50—nobody was safe. We think the Dips need to reclaim the beef throne (no homo) with a full-out attack on…Slaughterhouse 5. It may be a can’t-win situation lyrically, but you can guarantee that the S5 dudes will release 2,431 counter-dis records and webcam attacks in response. That alone should keep Dipset relevant for a while.

5.Make more movies:
So they can make a sequel to Night at the Museum, but we can’t get “Killa Season 2″???? We need more shit like this in our lives. Yo Cam: If it comes down to it, we got videographers on Complex staff. Holla at us!

Jay-Z confirms his emancipation from Def Jam

In an interview with RapRadar.com today, Jay-Z verified that he will indeed be going independent, severing all ties from label Island/Def Jam.
"Doug [Morris] and I spoke directly and had one of the most unique 'negotiations' ever," Jay told the website. "Doug won the toss, but we both won in the end. I thank him for allowing me to become a completely independent artist."
After rumors and speculation that the former President and CEO of Def Jam may have bought back his recording contract for an alleged amount of $5 million, Jay’s deal with Morris (CEO of Universal Records) will give the rapper an opportunity to own and control the rights to all of his music, including his upcoming release, The Blueprint 3.
"For me, the process of making an album is difficult with so many things going on," he told MTV.com earlier this year. "And me, I wanna make it beyond and above. I'm gonna take my time with it. I don't have any quotas, and that's a good thing."
The upcoming album may just be the debut LP on the Roc Nation label (Jay-Z’s joint venture with Live Nation). In addition to his independent status, Jay has been occupied, signing new artists to the label.

light messaging

Nokia has filed a patent for a cellphone capable of “light messaging.”

The patented phone has software that lets the user select a color to accompany the text being sent, which would then illuminate an LED array on the recipient’s light-messaging phone to let him know the mood in which the sender sent the message.

News: Jay-Z Reportedly Buys-Out Def Jam Contract, Drops $5Mil For "Blueprint 3"

News: Jay-Z Reportedly Buys-Out Def Jam Contract, Drops $5Mil For "Blueprint 3"
Written by Cyrus Langhorne

Thu, 21 May 2009 10:27:11

Hip-Hop mogul Jay-Z has reportedly bought out the remainder of his business contract with Def Jam Records, including his unreleased Blueprint 3 album obligation, for roughly $5 million.

While Def Jam has yet to comment on the alleged transaction, details surrounding the deal have begun circulating online.

As Roc Nation, Jay-Z's new home under the Live Nation umbrella, takes shape, the hip-hop superstar has reportedly bought back the last remaining record on his Island Def Jam deal for what some say is a whopping $5 million, raising a number of intriguing questions. How does the album figure into the plans of Roc Nation's brain trust, which also includes the A&R-savvy Jay Brown and Tata, as well as Jay-Z's business manager John Menielly? How will it be marketed and distributed? Will Roc Nation employ a traditional distribution channel or take the LP direct to retail? (Hits Daily Double)
Jay previously discussed his long-awaited Blueprint 3 release earlier this year.

"For me, the process of making an album is difficult with so many things going on," he said in an interview. "And me, I wanna make it beyond and above. I'm gonna take my time with it. I don't have any quotas, and that's a good thing. It may be too freeing. It's a good thing and a bad thing. You know, I think I need some restrictions. 'Cause if I had restrictions, I would have done it in three weeks. I would have made what I believe to be a great piece of art. I actually recorded a lot of records already. You know, all those records that leaked [online] were on The Blueprint 3." (MTV)
Claiming he helped craft Blueprint 3, producer No. I.D. recently promised the finished product would be a "classic."

"Me and Kanye [West] have been doing a lot of work, we worked on Blueprint together," No. I.D. revealed. "Most of the stuff, I kinda took an ego, stepped back and said, 'Hey, let's [Dr.] Dre and Mel-Man it. I played Mel-Man. I'm gonna say, we were doing Blueprint 3 when we did 'Heartless.' 'Heartless' made 808s & Heartbreak happen and all that is related but everything in Blueprint 3 is like 808s & Heartbreak but with more hip-hop. So it's kinda like they related and Jay brings it around to make it hip-hop credible. It's some records on there. That record is also gonna be something that's gonna grow on people in a certain way and in a certain amount of time it's gonna be a full fledged classic." (Real Talk Express)
Jay has been with Def Jam for over a decade.

Together with friends Damon Dash and Kareem "Biggs" Burke, Jay-Z created Roc-a-Fella Records, a risky strategy for cutting out the middleman and making money for himself. Once he found a reputable distributor, Priority Records (and then later Def Jam), Jay-Z finally had everything in place, including a debut album, Reasonable Doubt (1996). (All Music)
A release date for Blueprint 3 has not yet been announced

Allhiphop.com interviews Raekwon

The wait is nearly over. After four years of work, and fourteen years of fan anticipation, the Chef has finally confirmed an August 11 release date for Only Built for Cuban Linx II (EMI). The journey was not without much adversity. Two high-profile executive producers, Busta Rhymes and Dr.Dre, dropped out for still undisclosed reasons. And with Dre’s departure, it also marked the loss of Aftermath’s strong label support. But Raekwon persevered, and found success brokering a joint venture between his own Ice Water Records and EMI.

Now, judgment day will soon be upon us. Will Raekwon be able to capture the essence of his 1995 masterpiece, or will fans be treated to another respectable, but ultimately disappointing solo offering from the Chef?

AllHipHop.com: It’s been over 10 years since the original Cuban Linx album. Of course in that span you’ve grown as a man and an artist. With those realities manifested in your current life, how did you approach the sequel as opposed to the 1995 original?

Raekwon: I just went back in there and basically visited my roots again by listening to the first album. It ain’t really no method to my madness, it’s just me still having the passion to make that kind of music. A lot of people wanted me to go back into that cocaine story, drug life world again. To me, that’s the easiest sh*t for me to do. I’m an artist who wants to constantly grow and come up with more creativeness. So for people to say they love that [Cuban Linx] vibe, style, the Chinese/karate flick sayings, the eerie sounds, I just put all that in my memory bank and really went back out there searching for that production. We came out successful with what we needed.

When we made the first Cuban Linx album, I remember having beats on there that were 4-5 years old, that I held onto like ‘I’m gripping these sh*ts right here! I don’t give a f**k if they’re 10 years old, I’m keeping these right here!’ And that became the same journey on Cuban Linx II. People love that new “Wu Ohh,” that beat is like 4 years old, b! But it sounds so fresh and so right that it still sounds new. I guess sh*t happens for a reason. That showed me I was on my way to making a classic. I’m from that era that we work hard to make great music.

I took my time out to make sure I really did some soul-searching as far as the production side to really come up with making a classic. And I feel that it’s a classic off top. It ain’t no sh*t that you’ll say he tried to evolve with today’s sound. It’s what you want if you know who I am.

AllHipHop.com: Like you mentioned with “Wu Ohh,” you also have that classic RZA Wu Tang sound on “Criminology 2.” How was the chemistry with Dr. Dre on the songs you two worked on for the album?

Raekwon: Dre is a great friend. We met one time and had good chemistry. He gave me his word that he was here for me and wanted to be a part of this project. And once a man gives you his word, that’s all you can stand on. So we made some heat and that was that. As far as going into anything else [businesswise], that started happening after the chemistry had been made. And when everything didn’t pan out, we didn’t let that supersede our friendship or our business ties. I just wanted to make sure the brother was on the album and had the opportunity to get in on this Cuban Linx sh*t.

I respect producers whether they’re a new jack, or someone who paved the way like Dre. It’s just about coming up with that proper chemistry that I feel is the truth. And that’s what happened [with Dre]. This was that classic world I wanted to be in. After I finished, I was like ‘this is some sh*t right here.’ People are really going to love this one.

AllHipHop.com: When the original came out, you laid a modern blueprint on how to approach a cinematic album for your contemporaries in Nas (It Was Written), Jay-Z (Reasonable Doubt), and B.I.G. (Life After Death). Although the LP helped in creating a lot of memorable music, where there any Cuban Linx inspired trends that you disliked?

Raekwon: One thing about me, I don’t really judge nobody’s sh*t like that. A man is going to make whenever he feels he likes. I can’t sit there and say a n*gga stole anything from me. You make your sh*t, I make my sh*t. That’s why I made my tape purple. I wanted n*ggas to know the difference between they sh*t, and my sh*t! Going through hearing n*gga’s sh*t and seeing that they may have used the terminology the way we used it, I still wouldn’t say anyone is near close to me. Just when you think you’re close to me in the race, I’m gonna fly and hit the turbo boost on you. All I can do is just worry about what the f**k I gotta do and when my time is to come.

I learned from n*gga’s in the early 80’s, don’t get me wrong. We all learn from each other. At the same token I still got to make my path for me. I can’t really say anybody’s product is something I got to be pissed about. You Burger King, I’m McDonald’s, n*gga. It is what it is.

AllHipHop.com: Your last album was in 2003 but you’ve remained extremely busy, especially over the last year and a half. In that span, you’ve worked with Doom, Ill Bill, Big Boi, The Game, and a bunch of other artists. So looking at the industry today, who are other artists you look forward to working with or have worked with for this album?

Raekwon: It’s a lot of people I’d love to work with. I’m in the zone where I got to prove to people that I can hold my own. It’s more exciting for me to work as an artist that’s in a creative zone right now. I don’t want to base my sh*t off who I’m working with. I work with people according to personality and if I respect your art. You don’t have to be a multi-platinum artist for me to be a fan of you. You can be an up and comer, but if I feel you got it I’m f**king with you.

Prime example is the cat Nipsey Hussle. He’s new, but one day his CD got inside my car. Before you know it I heard a line in his verse where he said my name on some big up sh*t, saluting me. And here I am saluting him as a good artist. It showed me that there are still people out there who get busy.

I want to work with some of the OGs in the game, too. I feel like paying respect to the ones who did it before us is due. You can’t forget these cats. Just looking at the some of the producers I worked with on the album like Eric Sermon and Marley Marl. These are dudes that I grew up on that I really loved what they were making. They were making heat and classical music. It’s all about respecting my origins.

AllHipHop.com: That philosophy pretty much defines why you reached out to Outkast for “Skew It on the Bar-B.” You were one of, if not the first NY emcee to really embrace the burgeoning mainstream Southern movement in Hip-Hop.

Raekwon: Yeah, I was the one that opened that door for those South kids to come through. Anybody will tell you that. When the South was down, Rae was there for them. A lot of sh*t that I do, it just happens. How that Outkast sh*t jumps off is I’m pushing through the mall in the A, and I see the kid. And its like respect, kings respect kings. And we just got in the studio, I liked the n*ggas as individuals, and they looked at me the same way. We made history. I don’t go after who’s gonna help me on a marketing level.

AllHipHop.com: You’ve blessed us with a “Criminology 2” that captures the aura of the original. Is there any chance of us getting a “Verbal Intercourse 2?”

Raekwon: Thank you. We did the “Criminology 2” because I felt that was a beat that I really loved. When me and Ghost did that one, we were like “we want to start fights in the club.” Not trying to promote violence, [but] you how you’ll be at a club and a fight goes down? And the music is still playing? That’s the vibe I got from “Criminology.” [The sequel] was just a bonus to let everyone know ‘yo, get ready.’ We’re still in our zone, we haven’t missed a beat.

Regarding “Verbal Intercourse 2,” Nas said he’s gonna be on the album. We’re still working on catching him. But if it’s not “Verbal Intercourse 2,” we’ll come up with some new chemistry. And I think that’s the most important thing, to revamp that and bring it back to life. These are my dudes from back in the day, like Mobb Deep, Nas, Fat Joe, and Big Pun, God bless the dead. You never know what’s going to happen. Rae’ still got to move on as a general.

AllHipHop.com: On the last Wu album (8 Diagrams), you and Ghost really didn’t care for where RZA was taking the production. When you hooked back him for your project, where there any issues with getting the sound you wanted from him? Or did everything flow like the original Cuban Linx?

Raekwon: One thing about RZA is he’s like the Wizard of Oz. He’ll give what he feels like giving you, but he has other sh*t that he doesn’t really admire too much because it doesn’t represent his growth and development process. I knew he already had it; it’s just hard to get him to go back into his bag of goodies because he’s so used to dealing with another bag right now.

So that was the situation with the first album. I felt like ‘yo, I want this sound.’ But he was like ‘this is going to be the new sound!’ So now it happens to be a want situation. RZA is the type where you’ll ask for this, and he’ll give you something else. But he always has what you want [laughs]. You may have to search for a little bit, do some soul searching, but you’ll find what you need. That’s why happened on Cuban Linx II. I got what I needed from him for my sh*t.

[On 8 Diagrams], whatever else he wanted to grow on, we weren’t crazy over it. And that’s the whole thing people took out of context. No one tried to take anything away from RZA as a producer. It was more or less you can’t be selfish, and have to work with everybody’s ears and eyes on something. Him being the dude that he is with mad platinum albums, some n*ggas be super cocky. ‘I don’t wanna hear nothing, I got this.’ That’s what happened in that situation.

AllHipHop.com: I talked with Funkmaster Flex last year, and we discussed how in 1995 you, Nas, and B.I.G. were viewed as the top artists out of NYC. And of course around this time is when the mythical “King of New York” title began to take on a tangible form. But out of the three, you were the only one that never really fed into that competition. Why did that race never really appeal to you?

Raekwon: All that right there my n*gga is just egos jumping off the curb. If you’re a king, you’re a king. I never really jumped into that world because I didn’t have anything to prove at that time. My music was speaking for itself. Everybody wants to be on top, when they’re on top. I want to still be able to walk amongst the people, instead of being looked at as ‘yo, you can’t touch me.’ I always like to be in the mix. You got some dudes that feel like they’re so high; they can’t come back down to reality. I didn’t want to fall in that position, because I’m really a street n*gga. I really come from this and live it. Everything you hear, see, or witness from me, it’s because of my struggle. I never let myself get super-ego’d up just because I had a hot f**king album out. I’m always going to be grounded and respecting people who helped my career and life.

But I am a silent king. I don’t do a lot of bragging and boasting. It’s like when you come into a club and see a n*gga flashing all this money, just to show a b**ch he got money. Some b**ches don’t like that sh*t. They’re like ‘real n*ggas don’t show sh*t.’ That’s the same motto I have in regards to being a successful artist. I don’t have to be in the flyest V, you might catch me in a rental, b. I’m still live, though. I can have one chain on and the n*gga next to me can have 1,000 chains on. The most important thing is to be you and stay grounded.

I love the fly sh*t. But that don’t make me.

AllHipHop.com: There comes a time for everyone when they realize their generation’s culture has become a thing of the past. When you look at Hip-Hop in 2009, have you felt or are starting to feel that when you analyze today’s Hip-Hop culture?

Raekwon: Hip-Hop is about us showing each other growth and creativity. I don’t really get that too much anymore. There are so many fans out there; they’re not even fans anymore. They’re rappers! Me and my people had a discussion about how sales are so important to fans right now. ‘Oh, this dude only did 100,000. This guy only did 40,000 or 130,000.’ When the f**k did fans start paying attention to that sh*t?! Does it make a difference? Let’s talk about the music, man! The f**k n*ggas is worried about everything else for? That’s the sh*t that makes me weary with the game right now. It’s just a hot mess.

Every generation goes through its own trends and sh*t. All that sh*t is not important. It’s about making good and authentic music. You can’t base an artist’s merit on sales. Everyone is not going to be a 5 million seller. When I came in the game, I didn’t give a f**k about none of that sh*t. I was coming to get my respect. I wanted to hear people say ‘he gets busy, he puts it down, he can rhyme.’ But now, these artists they get big headed because they sell millions. It makes you a fortunate cat, but it doesn’t make you that n*gga. I’m just old-fashioned, I want n*ggas to really earn it.

It’s just like how boxing is f**ked up right now because we ain’t got no real live heavyweights. Who’s an [American] heavyweight right now? We ain’t even f**king got one! It’s f**ked up to me. That’s the sh*t we got to pay attention to [in Hip-Hop]. The art is special. When you get a golden child you want to feel like he paid his dues. Not like he got help for another artist to blow up.

AllHipHop.com: No matter what, the great music will stand the test of time, regardless of sales.

Raekwon: Exactly! I think that’s the most important thing. You can make a good album, but will it stand the test of time? Will a mother**ker pop it in 10 years from now? Same thing with Cuban Linx. When I made that album, I didn’t think people would still want me to come with a part 2. There are about 2 rappers out of 2,000 that people want a sequel to one of his classics. That’s incredible. I feel honored to be in that box. People really paid attention to what I’ve done. That’s what it’s all about. The people are saying ‘We know [Rae] has it in him to do it again, and we know he’ll do it.’

Independent powerhouse label Duck Down has announced their most recent coup in the acquisition of Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, and Sean Price as the su

Random Axe marks the fourth major signing announcement by Duck Down in less than a month.

The label has also secured deals with Marco Polo and Torae for the album Double Barrel (June 2), Skyzoo and 9th Wonder’s The Salvation project (August 11), and newcomers Team Facelift.

In an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com, Duck Down CEO Dru Ha praised the multi-faceted talent of Detroit’s Black Milk, and declared uninitiated fans will be blown away by the forthcoming album.

“It's an exciting time for Duck Down with all of these new signings and up coming releases. There are never too many Sean Price projects for us [and his fans] and combining his powers with Guilty and Black Milk makes for a formidable unit,” Dru Ha told AllHipHop.com. “We've been in talks with Hex (Black and Guilty's Manager) about this album for over a year now so to see it come to fruition is just another blessing for the label.”

Dru Ha is excited about Black Milk’s potential, stating that the artist had the potential to become as of a star as rapper Kanye West.

“Black's production is earth quaking: from his drums, to his sample game to his ability to play and arrange live music,” Dru Ha continued. “His vision to craft a song and skills on the mic should be taken note of. can't wait to see where he takes this project with Sean and Guilty.”

Milk, who released 2008’s well-received Tronic LP, verified that album is nearly finished.

As the debut project’s sole producer, the Detroit native explained he would bring, innovative, harder variations to his style to accommodate band mates Guilty Simpson and Sean Price.

“It’s more than halfway done. We got about three or four more cuts to do,” Black Milk stated. “It’s going to be [just] dirt rhymes and hard ass beats. People are going to feel it. [It’s going] to be another part of my production; still the sh*t that I do but just flipping it in a different way. Cats will like it.”

At press time, the untitled Random Axe album is expected to drop in 2009’s third or fourth quarter.

Former NBA forward Grant has Parkinson’s

Former NBA forward Brian Grant revealed Monday that he has Parkinson’s disease and is starting a Web site devoted to his fight with the neurological disorder.

The 37-year-old Grant told ESPN.com that he was diagnosed in January with “young onset Parkinson’s” and began having tremors in his left hand last summer. He consulted two other well-known Parkinson’s suffers, Michael J. Fox and Muhammad Ali, and quickly implemented several lifestyle changes.

Grant played parts of 12 seasons in the NBA with Sacramento, Portland, Miami, Phoenix and the Los Angeles Lakers. He last played in the 2005-06 season, when chronically bad knees forced his retirement. He averaged 10.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game in his career.

“Brian Grant is one of the greatest team players and warriors that I have ever coached,” Miami Heat president Pat Riley said Monday night. “I’m saddened by this news. Brian will find a way to fight this because that is the way he’s always been, a fighter. He will overcome this.”

Grant, who lives in Portland, told ESPN that a combination of traditional and non-traditional treatments—such as several doses daily of vitamins, herbs, powders and cod-liver oil—have already helped some symptoms subside.

“Just me believing in a positive spirit will take me farther in the long run,” Grant said.

Grant, who played collegiately at Xavier, was on the NBA’s All-Rookie team in 1995.

WTF???? Bakersfield dad accused of biting out son's eye

A Bakersfield father is accused of biting out one of the eyes of his small child and similarly mutilating the other eye, leaving the child blind. After attacking the child, 34-year-old Angel Vidal Mendoza Sr. quickly left his apartment in a wheelchair, entered a backyard of a nearby vacant home and attacked his own legs with an ax, severely injuring himself, Bakersfield police reported.

The child, 4-year-old Angelo Mendoza Jr., later told police, "My daddy ate my eyes." Doctors at Mercy Hospital said it is unknown whether the child will regain vision in his right eye. Child Protective Services cannot discuss the case, CPS program director Brian Parnell said. But in cases of serious abuse, the child is taken into protective custody, he said. Some foster homes have specialized medical training, but more such people are needed, he said.

The boy's mother, Desirae Marie Bermudez, 23, was not present during the incident. There is a $15,000 warrant for her arrest for failing to complete a drug treatment program in late 2008, court documents say. A search warrant report said the father "was displaying symptoms of being under the influence of PCP." Both he and Bermudez were charged with being under the influence of PCP in a 2006 criminal case. Both pleaded no contest to child endangerment charges in that case, records say.

So why was the boy still living with the father? CPS officials say there has to pretty much be serious physical abuse -- major bruises or broken bones -- before a child is taken away from his parents automatically. In cases where parents are using drugs, CPS will definitely check on the child, Parnell said. But they won't necessarily remove the child. That all depends on the extent of the drug abuse or the availability of other care -- relatives or neighbors -- for the children, he said.

Mendoza, who remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail, is charged with mayhem, torture, child cruelty and inflicting an injury to a child. He's scheduled for a May 20 hearing. His criminal history dates back to 1998 and includes convictions for drugs, battery, check forgery and a misdemeanor child endangerment.

Man cleared of rape after court shown phone footage of woman 'actively' taking part in sex

A businessman has been cleared of raping a university student after jurors were shown footage of the sex session taken on a mobile phone.

Gary Taylor, 41, was accused of attacking the 27-year-old woman after turning up at her flat with cocaine and a bottle of red wine.
The woman, who can't be identified for legal reasons, told jurors that Mr Taylor forced her to perform a sex act on him and then raped her in her living room.
But during cross-examination she was shown footage Mr Taylor had taken on his mobile phone during the encounter on September 26, 2008.
Mr Taylor's barrister Karen Holt said the footage showed the woman 'actively' performing a sex act on him.

Judge Christopher Moss QC closed the public gallery before a graphic clip filmed by the woman was shown to the jury.

The judge warned: 'You are going to see a clip which from what I have been told you may find extremely distasteful. To avoid making it a peep show, I have ordered the public gallery to be cleared.'

After the footage was screened, Miss Holt said to the alleged victim: 'You and Mr Taylor were very familiar with each other and comfortable in each other's presence.'

The woman said: 'I don't think I was happily talking to him.'

She also denied 'actively' performing a sex act on Mr Taylor.
The prosecution offered no evidence following advice from the judge.
Mr Taylor, who runs a multimedia company, was cleared of four charges of rape and walked free from court.
The Old Bailey heard police had arrived at the victim's flat in Wood Green, North London, in the early hours of the morning after reports of a disturbance.
She made a complaint of rape and Mr Taylor was arrested at the scene.
Giving evidence she told the court: 'He wanted to be intimate. Maybe he thought he could force me into it but he went too far.
'He thought he could be persuasive and it went too far. He kept trying to kiss me that evening and I was saying no.
'I was quite drunk. He was on top of me at some point with his hand on my mouth.'
Mr Taylor, from Hornsey, North London, denied four counts of rape, including two of rape by oral penetration.
The woman had not seen the film of her having sex with Mr Taylor before it was shown to the court.

NBA & WWE lock horns..lol..WOW

The Associated Press

-- Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers are scheduled to be at the Pepsi Center in Denver next Monday night. Problem is, so are John Cena and a bunch of wrestlers.

World Wrestling Entertainment says it is booked at the arena for an episode of Monday Night Raw, the same night the Nuggets are slated to host the Lakers in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals.

WWE spokesman Robert Zimmerman says the organization secured the Pepsi Center last Aug. 15 and has already sold more than 10,000 tickets for the event. He says the organization expects a sellout, with tickets ranging from $20 to $70.

"Even though the Denver Nuggets had a strong team this year and were projected to make the playoffs, obviously Nuggets and Pepsi Center owner Stan Kroenke did not have enough faith in his own team to hold the May 25th date for a potential playoff game," WWE chairman Vince McMahon said in a statement.

Denver is usually done with basketball by now. The Nuggets had lost in the first round five straight years, but as the No. 2 seed in the West are in the conference finals for the first time since 1985.

The Nuggets referred comment to the NBA, which handles scheduling during the playoffs. NBA spokesman Mark Broussard said the league was looking into the conflict.
Zimmerman said the Pepsi Center confirmed in March with the WWE that the organization wanted to keep the May 25 date, and sent a contract on April 15 _ the final night of the regular season _ which WWE signed and returned. Tickets went on sale April 11.
The conflict didn't arise until Sunday, when the Lakers beat the Houston Rockets in Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals. Had the Rockets won, Denver would have had home-court advantage in the next round, hosting Games 1 and 2 and putting the May 25 game in Houston.
As of Monday afternoon, the schedule on the Pepsi Center's Web site listed WWE for 6:30 p.m. local time and Western Conference finals Game 4 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the wrestling event could still be purchased online.

Jerry West : LeBron has surpassed Kobe as the best in the NBA

http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2009/...west.html?_r=2

LeBron James is the best player in the NBA, surpassing veteran Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, 14-times All-Star guard Jerry West said Monday.

West, a shrewd judge of talent who brought Bryant to the Lakers when he was their general manager, said the Cleveland forward could become the league's next Michael Jordan.

"I look at Cleveland say to myself, 'How many games could they win without LeBron James?' West told Reuters in an interview. "That's how great he is.

"He has a chance to be arguably the greatest player ever to play the game."

West, the NBA's executive of the year with the Lakers in 1995 and the Memphis Grizzlies in 2004, said playing both ends of the floor was what made Jordan so great.

"Michael Jordan was the best defensive player in the league but he was also the best offensive player," said West. "It wasn't a one-year fluke, he proved it over time.

"LeBron James will do the same type of things because he's getting better. He's a much more effective shooter. When's he's making his shots from the outside, you can't play him.

"He's just too big, too strong, too quick. And he has incredible body control. But more than that, he's a great team mate. You can see his team mates love him."

James averaged 28.4 points this season and was named the NBA's most valuable player. But Bryant, a three-times NBA champion and 2008 MVP, still remains a force, said West.

"If I had to have somebody make a last-second shot, it would be Kobe Bryant," said West, architect of the great Lakers teams from Magic Johnson years in the 1980s through the Shaquille O'Neal clubs of the early 2000s.

"But even though it's hard for me to be objective, because I brought Kobe to Los Angeles, I do think LeBron has surpassed Kobe as a player."

West, 70, was in Washington attending a conference for atrial fibrillation, a condition he has that can cause a racing heart, sleeplessness, anxiety and depression.

The condition, diagnosed at age 42, forced him to leave the front office of the Lakers and then the Grizzlies in 2007.

West, a member of the Lakers' 1972 title team, said he does not think about how he would fare in today's NBA but added, "I would be competitive, trust me."

Fat Joe goes in on 50 cent...AGAIN

Fat Joe on 50 getting robbed

Joe Budden chops it up with AllHIphop.com

Joe wants to get the word out fast about his views on this whole Method Man, Melle Mel and Hip-Hop fiasco that originated from a Vibe magazine list of the Top 50 rap artists. For this interview, we decided to allow the AllHiphop Ill Community and our followers on twitter.com (follow us!) to exclusively ask the questions of Joe. Forgive us for the length of the piece, but the people have a lot of question of Mr. Budden.

This is Part 1 of 2. In this installment, Joe defends his position, but also asks several other questions about his life, his desire to battle Redman and how he really feels about Trey Songz and Bow Wow drooling over his girl’s booty. Hey, even Drake gets a nod in this one. Read on.

AllHipHop.com: meedymek: “Question for Joe Budden, do u think people take your comments so personally because they are intimidated by you?”

Joe Budden: I think some people may be intimidated. I don’t think the majority of the people are. I think there are more idiots in the world than there are intelligent people. A lit of times I’ll say something and people aren’t able to comprehend what I am saying. I don’t know if their listening skills aren’t good or what, but they just take what I’m saying and misconstrue it.

AllHipHop.com: This is one from the AllHipHop.com Ill Community. LESkidd asks, “Do u think u better than Redman?”

Joe Budden: [Laughs] You see what trouble that’s gotten me in. [laughs] Questions like that have gotten me in trouble as of late.

AllHipHop.com: I’m just asking their questions.

Joe Budden: [answering] I don’t know. I would like to find out though.

AllHipHop.com: You would like to find out? What do you mean by that?

Joe Budden: I mean, I would be more than willing to find out [if he’s better than Redman].

AllHipHop.com: OK. I’m just asking the questions. [Jigsaw thinks about his Top 5 Dead or Alive with Redman on it.]

Joe Budden: I don’t know what school these other rappers come from. I come from somewhere where battling and competition is great for the sport. Its great for Hip-Hop. I wouldn’t mind seeing what would happen between me and Redman or me and him on a track together. I’d love to see it. He’s a legend also.

AllHipHop.com: A little friendly competition…

Joe Budden: [long pause] I’m probably the most competitive person in Hip-Hop. Its all for competition. There’s nothing to gain…there’s no money on the line. People are more concerned about their reputation. I can’t speak on what people are concerned about, but…me, I’m just extremely competitive. Its nothing to be taken personally.

AllHipHop.com: From the IC’s TheKnowledge: “What are your 5 favorite Hip Hop albums ever?”

Joe Budden: It Takes A Nation of Millions [To Hold Us Back by Public Enemy] Mama Said Knock You Out [By LL Cool J], Me Against The World [By Tupac], Ready to Die [By The Notorious B.I.G.]..then…I don’t know. It’s a toss-up between The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, The Marshall Mathers LP and Makaveli [By Tupac].

AllHipHop.com: This is from the Ill Community. “Do you think that Method Man can out-rap you in a battle?”

Joe Budden: Today?

AllHipHop.com: Yeah.

Joe Budden: I don’t think there are too many people that can out-rap me in a battle.

AllHipHop.com: Somebody asked this earlier, but somebody also asked if you were in the year '93-'95, could you best Meth in a rap battle? Do you feel the same way?

Joe Budden: If me, my present self was in that era I wouldn’t be so confident.

AllHipHop.com: hiphopadvocate: “Ask him if Slaughterhouse is actually releasing an album on Koch on 7/7/09. Koch has an offer on the table.”

Joe Budden: I’m not sure, but there have been some talks. There’s nothing concrete so I wouldn’t be able to answer.

AllHipHop.com: dannyh2009: “Ask him if he thinks he woulda won the beef lyrically if jay z responded to the last verse to 'talk to em’'”

Joe Budden: No, because there were only about six bars on “Talk To ‘Em” that was directed toward him. So, if Jay-Z, one of the best ever, would have lyrically responded – no. I would not have won.

AllHipHop.com: vondalia: “Ask Joe Budden when his next solo album is coming out?”

Joe Budden: Before the year-end.

AllHipHop.com: Is that The Great Escape?

Joe Budden: Yeah.

AllHipHop.com: 4RealDeric “is buddens trying to get a bad guy rep, attention, exposure from mentioning other rappers names. Why not go after a current mc?”

Joe Budden: For one, there aren’t too many current MC’s in my opinion. So that list would be extremely short. I’m not one of those guys that does things to get attention. Like I said, I am extremely competitive. I never say anything out of my mouth that I’m not willing to stand behind and or defend, or at least debate about.

Maybe I was wrong for singling out Method Man, because that derailed my entire argument. Maybe because of the name value. My argument was a valid argument, but by that time I was on a tangent. I wasn’t even talking about the list. With MC’s today, there are top-notch that their older classmen would have a hard time competing with. I’d like to get your opinion on this.

AllHipHop.com: I think a battle between you and Meth would be an interesting one. I think you have to be careful about what you say on any artist. I did an article called “Twitter Will Ruin Your Music Career” and it was just about all ways of communicating that they didn’t have before. They have a voice that they didn’t have before. It works both ways, positively and potentially destructive. After my article, then Asher Roth had his incident with twitter. My thing is, as a star, you have be careful about what you say and how you say it or somebody is going to take it the wrong way. A lot of times, people don’t listen or they are going to home in on one particular part of your conversation.

I do say that Melle Mel got a bad rap in this. His credentials are irrefutable. Even though his hey-day is many years gone, what he did is not to be questioned to me. I think he is one of the all-time greats.

[More talk about the list.]

Joe Budden: I’d never say a word against Melle Mel.

"Drake was beefing with a local Toronto rapper and the guy accused him of jacking Joe Budden’s style. And Drake told him, “If I’m jacking his style, you’re jacking his career.” It was a low blow..."

AllHipHop.com: hiphopadvocate: “ask him anything is formulating with a TV Show. he & Tahiry had a meeting with Russell Simmons & the Rev a couple weeks back.”

Joe Budden: Yeah, we’ve been meeting with a few people. Some people are interested in producing a television show. Those just happened to be some of the more known people. We’ve been meeting with people for the fast few months.

AllHipHop.com: Koolhand79: “do u foresee yourself returning to a major label and dropping an album?? It's a shame the masses don't know Buddens.”

Joe Budden: I don’t know. In terms of my slave ship days, it would have to be worth wild. And, I haven’t received an offer that’s been worth while I think that’s something about people that they don’t know. I could give two f**ks about a major label or selling records or No 1 hits. Its not very high on my list of priorities.

AllHipHop.com: It’s just for Hip-Hop?

Joe Budden: I love Hip-Hop. I just love Hip-Hop.

AllHipHop.com: This from the IC. “Where do you rank Method Man, Redman, and Melle Mel as one of the all time greats????”

Joe Budden: I don’t rank them. It’s not my place.

AllHipHop.com: Ill Community asks, “Who is your favorite Wu Tang Clan member?”

Joe Budden: I don’t know, it would be difficult to say. I go to different ones for different things and it changes at various points in their legacy. At one point, I was the biggest Method Man, fan and then the Purple Tape came out and it was all about Raekwon. It was all about Ghost at on point. It always rotated between Meth, Rae, Ghost and [Inspectah] Deck.

AllHipHop.com: NStarks007: “ask budden why he cant let his music speak for itself instead of beefing with some rapper every time he gets some buzz.”

Joe Budden: Beefing is what I have a problem with. Beefing, I’m not beefing with anyone. People may term it into a beef. It was a challenge. It was me challenging anyone on that list who felt a way about what I was saying to prove me wrong. In a court of law, you need proof. I strictly wanted to keep this “a rap thing.” I probably owe Method Man an apology for singling him out. It was in bad taste. I still meant exactly what I said.

AllHipHop.com: I gotta intervene. You said you’d cut the man’s head off, Joe.

Joe Budden: That’s how I feel. Its my opinion and I’m entitled to it. Its not like I said, Chuck, I’ll chop his head off and that’s the end of it. I said, “I’ll chop his head off and I’m willing to prove it.” If somebody is telling me there’s something wrong about being confident or overconfident then guilty as charged.

AllHipHop.com: this is from Nupe in the Ill Community. “Also, ask him if he heard the critiques on Padded Room (poor engineering/mixing) and whether he agrees.”

Joe Budden: I do agree. That’s an internal problem that’s been taken care of and I apologize.

AllHipHop.com: Do you think Padded Room was too dark?
Joe Budden: No that came out exactly how I intended for it to be, which is dark.

AllHipHop.com: Somebody asked about Drake and a beef with Drake. I didn’t even know about this.

Joe Budden: Drake was beefing with a local Toronto rapper and the guy accused him of jacking Joe Budden’s style. And Drake told him, “If I’m jacking his style, you’re jacking his career.” It was a low blow, but Drake’s buzz wasn’t as big and, by the time I caught wind of it, it was way after the fact. So, who am I to rehash something that was extremely old. When I talked to Drake, he was an extremely humble guy and well spoken. It was a good line in a battle.
AllHipHop.com: Do you regret putting your girl in front of the cameras the way you do?

Joe Budden: No, I love when a plan comes together.

AllHipHop.com: TheGantanaShow asks, “who are his top 5 rappers ever,.and who wins in a battle feat all the members of slaughterhouse.”

Joe Budden: Royce.

AllHipHop.com: Why is that, because of his emotions or pure lyrics?

Joe Budden: Royce is…it definitely wouldn’t be on pure lyrics, but I’ve seen Royce write verse after verse after verse after verse in extremely short periods of time. And its never in a wack way. I’m gonna say him. That’s assuming the battle went the distance, excluding myself of course.

AllHipHop.com: DeeDarling wants to me to ask “if he ever regrets putting his girl in front of the cameras the way he does.”

Joe Budden: No, I love when a plan comes together.

AllHipHop.com: Yeah?

Joe Budden: Hell yeah, I had a plan! She’s happy. If she’s happy, I’m happy. She’s making all of this money from what God has blessed her with, which is a great shape.

AllHipHop.com: You feel she gets more attention than you do at this point?

Joe Budden: She gets attention from different people. She gets attention from people that wouldn’t or shouldn’t be paying me any attention.

AllHipHop.com: Was this a career move. I guess I am trying to clarify what the plan was.

Joe Budden: I’m not going to reveal what the plan was, but I’m not going to say it was a career move. She’s an intricate part of my life. She’s 95% of my life. There’s no way for me to do Joe Budden TV and her not be involved. Did I know she would attract attention from people that wouldn’t pay me attention? Yes! Did I know that opportunities would present themselves that would have presented themselves before? Yes. Did I know that or plan on taking all these production meetings? Yes. I didn’t plan on it happening so fast.

AllHipHop.com: OK.

Joe Budden: Did I know that rappers would use her to attack me personally? Yes. I factored all these things in, before I put her in front of the camera. Did I know that rappers would say disrespectful s**t like, “I’m gonna f**k her and put my d**k in her a**?” Yes. All of that is predictable; I see it a mile away. I have the thickest skin in the universe. Other rappers need the thickest skin in the universe.

AllHipHop.com: What did you think about what Bow Wow said?

Joe Budden: Which one was his?

AllHipHop.com: He said something like, “No disrespect, I’ll eat it.”

Joe Budden: That’s the new thing though. To say “No disrespect” and to be disrespectful.” That’s the latest trend. I don’t have a problem with Bow Wow or JD or Trey Songz, especially JD. Everybody’s wanted to do something with his girl (Janet Jackson) at some point in their lifetime. The other side of me starts to say, there are other people out there of notoriety with attractive girlfriends and you don’t hear these rappers speak in such a manner about them [their girlfriends]. So when I see Bow Wow, should I f**k him up? He’s not going to get on camera and say, “Yeah, Beyonce…I’ll f**k the s**t outta her.” Or “I’ll stick my d**k in her butt,” so when I see Trey Songz, should I f**k him up? That’s what the other side of me says. Aside from that, when I ignore that…she’s a beautiful girl. I would say the same thing..maybe not on camera, but I would think it. They can try and they will fail.

AllHipHop.com: torbenb: “In Joe's recent radio interview, he said their were some emcee's he would ‘leave alone.’ Who are they?”

Joe Budden: I’m leaving Eminem alone. I’m leaving Rakim alone. I’m leaving Big Daddy Kane alone. I’m leaving LL Cool J alone. I would leave Jay-Z alone…if there weren’t other situations pending, I would leave him alone. Nas. Black Thought. Ras Kass. There’s a long list of guys I would leave alone. Ghostface I would leave alone. Raekwon, I would leave alone.

AllHipHop.com: What’s this based on? Career or lyrical merits?

Joe Budden: If I got into a lyrical quarrel with these people, I would be unsure of what would be taking place. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten into it with anybody were I didn’t know what was going to happen.

AllHipHop.com: tangomega: “Ask Joe has he learned to cope with his well-pub. issues w/ depression?”

Joe Budden: I would thinks so. I’m gonna go with “Yes.” [laughs]
